The courts in Montgomery County, Maryland will go live with MDEC on October 26, 2021. To ensure that the transition is seamless, the District and Circuit courts will close on October 25, 2021. Here are some resources that will help those who are not familiar with the electronic filing system currently in effect in other Maryland courts. What does MDEC Stand for?
MDEC stands for Maryland Electronic Courts. MDEC’s goal is to create a judiciary-wide integrated case management system that will enable courts at all levels to collect, store, process, and access records electronically. Attorneys and parties may file and access records electronically.

Is e-filing mandatory?
E-filing for attorneys is mandatory if you are filing in a county that has been converted to the new MDEC system. Self-represented litigants may voluntarily choose to e-file (See Rule 20-106). Paper filings will be scanned and maintained electronically from day one.
